The Rabbis are not our guide to interpreting the bible. They lived centuries, sometimes millennia after the time of the writing of the biblical text. They disagree in pretty much everything, and make a lot of stuff up. We need to go to material that is contemporary to the Old and New Testament to understand our bibles.
