I Am Thankful

We stand and we stand firmly when we have a foundation of God's Word and gratefulness. Why? Gratefulness has a strong object, an unbreakable foundation. I am grateful. One thing I know God is with me and for me. I am so grateful for this. I am thankful that no matter what we are growing through on this side of heaven, we have a bright promise for a forever without sickness, pain, disappointment, injustice, our future is going to be amazing and as we think on this, our Awe-God gratefulness becomes our focus. Evil is parading itself on the streets of our world as lawlessness and injustice are two prevalent things in our lives. It looks as if evil is winning, but this is not so, the truth is God wins.

If we stay focused on all the amazing things God is doing, and we stir up our heart with gratefulness, we see less and less of the bad and more and more of the good. Gratefulness seems to fine tune our God discernment which activates our faith on what is not seen but believed for. It is not that we don’t “see” the bad, it is there, it just doesn’t capture our attention like God does. Gratefulness helps us because it takes our soul captive with the belief that God is at work in the unseen for our good and being thankful, it helps us let go and let God work.

Today, we focus on Jesus, and we are grateful that He has grounded us in the strength of His Word. We are thankful for God’s Presence, and grateful that His Word holds us fast in the times where the world is battering us with cultural chaos. The waves of our crazy culture crash into our pilings and they hold because the foundation is strong, the Word of God is a fantastic foundation, it holds like an anchor.

We are grateful for the Shalom of God which speaks peace into our chaos, disrupting it in that way only God can. Have you ever had a stormy life season where the waves just come crashing in one after another? It is easy to focus on the waves and become so very fearful about our future. We overthink whether our lives can stand through these crazy cultural storms upon us. As we refocus, simply-significantly being grateful for God’s Presence, always with us, the waves don’t seem as threatening, and it is well with our soul even when the storms are whipping all around us. The object of our gratefulness is Jesus, so when our heart is steeped in thanksgiving, He is what we see, we are no longer focused on the storm.

What are you grateful for today? Speak it out to Jesus and focus your soul on all things God, His strong Word, His faithfulness, His trustworthiness, His power, His goodness, His plan, His peace, His character, and the future and hope Jesus bought for us with His life.
