WGA East Council Member Greg Iwinski joins the program to discuss why the writers are striking he explains that studios are trying to "gigafy" writing. The WGA strike began on May 2nd, with one of the main concerns being the potential for screenwriting to become part of the "gig economy." The WGA proposed mandatory staffing minimums and guaranteed weeks of employment, which has divided labor and management. The collapsed contract talks between the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have sparked debates among writers over the long-term employment prospects for Hollywood screenwriters.
