2001 Solara. Replacing cracked Evap system hose.

The gas cap was previously changed to a Genuine Toyota cap about 2 months ago of the same code from the date I repaired this car. It was never changed before. That is the first step I told my friend to do.

My friend called me and said there was a check engine light again. Asked him how was the car driving? Fine he says.
So I told him to go to Autozone to get it scanned for free.

And the Code is P0442, EVAP System small leak detected. Same code as before.

Possible Causes:
- Missing or loose fuel cap
- Incorrect fuel filler cap used
- Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
- Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap
- EVAP canister or fuel tank leaks
- EVAP system hose leaking
- Fuel tank leaking

Possible Symptom:
- Possible a noticeable fuel odor caused by the release of fuel vapors

I told him to bring it over to see if it is a simple fix like an unplugged hose.
This is the second step.
Looked all over engine trying to find any hoses that has cracks or unplugged. Came around the air filter cover to find the cracked hose attached to it.
I replaced the hose and reset check engine light.

I'm happy to say my friend has not called me since August 23, 2014 when I replaced that cracked hose.

Note: To reset the check engine light. Just remove negative side battery terminal for 2 minutes and reinstall.
