BEFORE becoming Post Malone’s first signee and the music industry’s best-kept secret, the singer-songwriter and rapper known as Clever was born Joshua Tyler Huie on July 8th, 1985 in Gadsden, Alabama. Stemming from a part of the country as picturesque as that fine state, Joshua’s earliest years were surrounded by natural beauty, which inspired him to pick up a pen and start writing poetry from a very young age. As gorgeous as it is, Alabama isn’t exactly the easiest place to get noticed as far as music and entertainment are concerned. Especially not when you hail from a town like Gadsden with a population of only 35,000 people. Not that that ever-stopped Joshua from becoming determined to make a name for himself. The first CD he ever bought was a Korn album. From there, he moved on to other types of artists and genres, including hip-hop, where he discovered the music of Jay-Z. Listening to Hova’s music as a young kid blew Joshua away and he spent hours mimicking Jay’s delivery while also studying his punchlines and rhyming schemes.
