On Friday, April 28, 2023, at approximately 4:53 PM, I was patrolling United States Highway 82 near Colonel Jerry Road. I observed a vehicle traveling faster than the 55 MPH posted speed limit approaching me. I confirmed the vehicle’s speed on my radar to be 77 MPH. I then attempted to catch up with the vehicle to perform a traffic stop. I activated my blue lights as I caught up to this vehicle.
The vehicle in question, a white Jaguar passenger car, continued westbound before making a rapid right turn onto Colonel Jerry Road. As the vehicle began to travel northbound on Colonel Jerry Road, it was evident it was attempting to flee. I then activated my siren and advised Troop F Communications that I was in pursuit.
The vehicle continued northbound on Colonel Jerry Road, which is a dirt road, for approximately 2 miles before coming to a dead end near an oil well. I performed a felony traffic stop and took the driver into custody without further incident.
The driver was identified as Quincy Hardwell (DOB 11/7/1993). After taking Hardwell into custody and clearing the vehicle for any other occupants, a search, incident to the arrest, was conducted. I located several loose live 9MM handgun rounds in the driver’s seat and on the vehicle’s exterior near the sunroof and windshield area. The bottom cap of a GLOCK magazine was also located in the passenger floorboard area. While searching the center console, I located a prescription bottle containing some small white pills, believed to be a narcotic analgesic acetaminophen, containing codeine. The bottle did not have Hardwell’s name. I also located several empty bottles of prescription codeine syrup in the vehicle that did not belong to Hardwell.
The pills, totaling approximately 6.5 grams, were seized and placed into evidence. A search was conducted in the nearby area for the discarded firearm. Hardwell was questioned about the firearm’s whereabouts for public safety, but Hardwell denied having a firearm. After tracking the travel path of the pursuit, a semi-automatic GLOCK handgun was located just off the roadway, across from the residence of 112 Colonel Jerry Road. The handgun was a 9MM GLOCK that matched the caliber of the live rounds recovered from the vehicle. The handgun also contained a 30-round extended magazine missing an end cap. This was consistent with the end cap recovered inside the vehicle. Several live 9MM rounds were also discovered where the handgun was located due to the missing end cap. The live rounds and handgun were seized and placed into evidence.
Hardwell was transported to the Union County Criminal Justice facility, where he was booked and will be held for First Appearance in District Court on 5/1/23.
Hardwell was charged with fleeing in a motor vehicle, possessing a schedule 2 controlled substance, possessing a firearm by certain persons, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, speeding, and no insurance.
