Chase Elliott has been in the headlines multiple times in 2023 not for his on-track performance, but his six-week hiatus due to a knee injury and surgery, and his recent eye-opening comments regarding the safety concerns of drivers following the violent crash of his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson with Ryan Preece at Talladega.

On Sunday at Kansas, Elliott's remarks once again were a topic of conversation, but it wasn't for anything the 2020 Cup Series champion said to reporters, but what he said to Noah Gragson after the race, which was one motivating factor for the Legacy MC driver in confronting Ross Chastain on pit road. And unfortunately for the rookie driver, those words spectacularly and painfully backfired in his face.
