Join Sam from Bluegrass Backcountry and I as we tackle 28 miles of the Pine Mountain Trail’s Birch Knob Section. You can find the Highland Section here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEYH860A3ns&t=64s

The ice storm damage continued to get worse as we progressed closer to the Northern Terminus and if that wasn’t enough, we also made a wrong turn, lost a camera and had a one mile reroute with no trail bed. This hike turned out to be one of our most difficult treks we have ever taken on but with lots of memories to take away.

At the end of the video we take a little time to sit down for a trip debriefing and share our final thoughts of our adventure on the PMT.

The Pine Mountain State Scenic Trail is one of the finest and most difficult backpacking trails in the state of Kentucky. The PMT is currently a 44 mile footpath that runs along the Pine Ridge and will eventually be 120 miles when completed and connect Breaks Interstate Park to Cumberland Gap National Historical Park as well as be a key connecting link to the Great Eastern Trail (GET). On this backpacking trip I used my Hammock Gear Dynema Tarp, instead of the Zpacks Duplex, a Nemo Tensor air pad, Lite AF Curve 35 backpack and wore Darn Tough socks with my Altra Olympus 4.0 shoes
