Backpacking the Adventure Hiking Trail \ Best Hiking in Indiana?

For our annual mid December father son backpacking trip during college break we chose an overnighter on the Adventure Hiking Trail in Southern Indiana. The AHT was not our first choice but with cold night temps in all the states around us this was our best option. Other options we considered were Dolly Sods, Grayson Highlands, Crannberry Wilderness or even Oil Creek but those places were going to be in the low 20's or colder and we were not prepared for that, so those will have to wait for another day.
