Popular US talk shows are expected to go off-air as Hollywood writers go on strike.

The move by members of the Writers Guild of America saw 11,000 writers choosing to walk out after last minute pay talks with studios such as Disney and Netflix failed.

A prolonged walkout could see new productions of comedy shows follow late night talk shows in being replaced by reruns.

The last writers strike 15 years ago cost the Californian economy $2bn and lasted 100 days.
