DREW BAYE 9 | SLOW LIFTING to failure…SAME RESULTS AS FAST
http://www.DoctorsToTrust.com
presents episode 808 | Drew Baye
Drew Baye High Intensity Training podcast
Studies, going back decades, showing
-regardless whether using
heavy weights and short sets
or
moderate weights and longer sets
-as long as effort high enough
-working to momentary muscle failure
[unable to continue in proper form]
-have practically same results,
in short term
-and long term only limited by genetics
That is about strength & hypertrophy...
-looking at safety &
metabolic; cardiovascular conditioning
-IT IS MORE EFFECTIVE
-don't have to do separate 'cardio'
Muscle contraction...
-muscle fiber is either contracting
-maximally
or
-not at all
The slower a muscle contracts
concentrically [shortening] the more
FORCE IT CAN PRODUCE
-have more tension while contracting
more slowly
People say 'must explode in positive'
then control in negative....
NONSENSE
need to slowly lift and lower weight
Recent study: matched time per set
-compared sets at 90 seconds
-using different rep cadences
-2/4/10/10 vs 30/30/30
"When working to momentary muscle
failure: NO DIFFERENCE
-no benefit to moving faster
