Is man "equal" with God?

In our series on developing our soul, the Lord had me make a slight turn from what I intended to preach on. Philippians 2:5-6 tells us to let this mind be in you that was also in Christ. And Jesus did not consider it robbery to be equal with God. What was the revelation Paul was trying to convey to the Philippians?
