Drew Baye High Intensity Training podcast

The belief: have to move fast to
recruit fast-twitch motor units
IS FALSE!
You must fatigue muscles
-deeply enough
-within relatively short time
[1 to 2 minutes]
-will recruit ALL THE MOTOR UNITS
in target muscles,
regardless of speed
-can do this fast, slow, in-between

For example:
hold a heavy weight for 2 minutes,
-heavy enough cannot hold longer
-will effectively recruit & stimulate
all motor units
-as well as any other method

Speed in exercise does not transfer
to any other activities...
-it only affects your skill at
-THAT EXERCISE
-AT THAT SPEED
Want to get fast?
-get stronger
[regardless of how] will:
-contribute to speed
& explosiveness
-in other activities

To increase speed at target activity...
-when practicing that activity
-learn & practice the activity
correctly & accurately
-practice AS FAST AS YOU
CAN DO SO CORRECTLY
"Must practice FAST in an activity
in which you want to perform fast"
-must do it fast correctly

Sum
-move slowly during exercise
-fast as can in practice
-done correctly
"This is where fast movement comes"
-risk of injury when moving fast
