Kennedy Blasts Democrats Over Electric Car Incentives
Top news right now, Republican Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy grilled Solar Energy Industries Association CEO Abigail Ross Hopper about the government’s electric vehicle incentives. During a hearing on the Inflation Reduction Act, Kennedy questioned why Americans are being incentivized to purchase electric cars if they are such a great option. Hopper stated that government policies are meant to incentivize certain behaviors, including the purchase of electric vehicles. However, Kennedy continued to press, asking why the government needs to pay people to drive electric cars if they are so wonderful. The Biden Administration’s $7,500 consumer tax credit for electric cars was brought up, with experts estimating the program will cost taxpayers $136 billion over the next decade.
