Today is the Revenge of the 5th, and as such we need to look at the badest of the bad guys in the Star Wars Universe and why we think they are awesome. Anyone can blindly say Darth Vader or Darth Sidious/Lord Palpatine, those are easy, so with them out of the way here are the best villains in Star Wars.

Honorable Mention:
Kathleen Kennedy
She has done so much to divide the fandom, she deserves a mention on this list. Take her ideology out of things, she is a terrible planner and the sequel trilogy shows that. There was no grand story plan, they made it up on the fly, and that's why it was so divisive.

Number 3:
Darth Maul (Animated)
Ray Park as Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace was one of the best parts of an otherwise meh movie, but when they brought him back in Clone Wars and Rebels, man, such a great character! Sam Witwer was amazing with the voice, bringing cunning and evil with a touch of crazy to the screen. You can see why he is mad, but at the same time, there are bits of sane mixed in. When he tries to coopt Ezra in Rebels, then fight against both Palpatine AND Kenobi, you can see why he's such a great character.

Number 2:
Grand Admiral Thrawn (Rebels)
Man, I love a psychological thriller and the portrayal of Thrawn in Rebels was simply amazing. You get his aloofness dripping off the pages of the script, and Lars Mikkelsen did such a great job with the character. Much like Maul, and our number 1 pick, you see his logic, it's understandable. I loved his interrogation of Herra, there's respect for an adversary there along with arrogance that he had bested her.

Number 1:
Count Dooku (Animated & Live Action)
One of the things that makes a great bad guy wrestler, called a heel, a great bad guy is when they make good points where you could almost relate to them. When Dooku talks to Kenobi on Geonosis, there's part of you that wants to believe him, believe IN him. He literally tells the entire plot to Kenobi, and it is only later that people find out he was being truthful! We get to see his story flushed out later in the animated series, insomuch as we actually see actions of the Jedi, Mace Windu in particular, which the audience pauses to say "Hey, the Jedi are in the wrong here, Dooku's Right!". Christopher Lee was an amazing actor and I loved his portrayal of Dooku, and Corey Burton continues on with his gravitas in the animated series. In the end you can understand why Yoda's own apprentice turned his back on the Jedi, as he felt the Jedi turned their back on him AND the Republic.
