Today marks nine years since the day when a Ukrainian radical started a fire in the House of Trade Unions in Odessa, which left 44 people dead. ‘I can’t believe that on May 2, 2015, in Odessa, the right-wing radical groups acted alone, without Ukraine’s Security Service knowing,’ says Vasily Prozorov, a former officer of the SBU. ‘It was an arson and mass murder in Odessa...,' says Vladimir Grubnik, a doctor from Odessa, who witnessed the horrific inferno. ‘Events in Odessa clearly showed how the supporters of Maidan were operating, and that they were ready to resort to any methods,’ says another witness, Aleksandr Khodakovsky, the founder of the battalion ‘Vostok’. He described who the people of Donbass had to deal with when armed radicals marched against them. After those events of 2014-2015, Khodakovsky organized the ‘Vostok’ battalion from the Donbass militiamen.
