NY Gov Hochul's Awful Response To Jordan Neely's Death

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul have both responded to the death of Jordan Neely, a man who was placed in a chokehold on the subway for 15 minutes and died.

In a statement, Adams said that "any loss of life is tragic" but that "we do know that there were serious mental health issues at play here." He added that he is "committed to working with the NYPD and our partners in the mental health community to ensure that we are providing the best possible care for those who need it."

Hochul also acknowledged that there were many homeless and mentally ill people on New York's subways, but that "there's consequences for behavior." She said that she is "committed to keeping our subways safe for everyone" and that she is "working with the NYPD to ensure that those who commit crimes are held accountable."

Neely's death has sparked outrage in New York City and has raised questions about the city's handling of homelessness and mental health. Adams and Hochul's weak statements will not quell that anger.
