Sustainable Tech Lifestyle - The Future is Refurbished (Episode 07)

In this ThatITShow podcast, we discuss the topic that both of us feel very passionately about - using refurbished hardware both for personal and professional scenarios. Both of us have been using refurbished laptops for years as they're way cheaper and suitable for many of our needs. Professionally, both of us have been using refurbished servers as the basis for a lot of the work that we do, especially in education. Just as an example - one of our environments that our students use 0-24 recently underwent a refurbished hardware refresh process, and we were able to reduce it from 40-50 servers to just 5. While not only keeping the same amount of horsepower - we actually got more (a generation newer CPUs). This also significantly influenced our energy footprint, as the prices of electricity in the future are still a big unknown. In all of the use cases, this means being a bit more kind to the environment while meeting your performance and capacity needs.
