Hebrews 13:7-19

7 Remember those who [a]rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

(Hebrews 13:7-8)

THOSE WHO RULE are th leaders of the sacraments (bishops and priests). As Christian leaders they are to be both prayed for (see v. 3) but also followed as models of Christian life if they are upholding their duties to the Lord and to us all. The faith of Christian leaders is that faith they both teach and also live by.

Matthew 5:13-19 - The disciples in the world

Matthew 5:13: 13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

Matthew 5:14-16: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

SALT AND LIGHT go together- they illustrate the role of all disciples in society.

Be part of the healing of the earth and not part of its destruction, and let your light shine so others can see the greatness of God."
