Canada: Liberal MP Salma Zahid on bill regarding public accountability of CSIS – May 2, 2023

Liberal MP Salma Zahid holds a news conference on Parliament Hill after tabling Bill C-331, her private member’s bill to amend the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) Act. The legislation seeks to enshrine in law a “duty of candour” for CSIS and government lawyers in their dealings with the courts. Zahid is joined by Stephen Brown, president of the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), Tim McSorely, national coordinator of the International Civil Liberties Monitoring Group, and Karine Devost, senior legal counsel for the NCCM.
