Ford Brody (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a Navy bomb expert, has just reunited with his family in San Francisco when he is forced to go to Japan to help his estranged father, Joe (Bryan Cranston). Soon, both men are swept up in an escalating crisis when Godzilla, King of the Monsters, arises from the sea to combat malevolent adversaries that threaten the survival of humanity. The creatures leave colossal destruction in their wake, as they make their way toward their final battleground: San Francisco.

Godzilla..... The film begins in 1954 with an attempt to kill Godzilla using a nuclear bomb, and then jumps to 1999 where Monarch scientists discover a monster similar to Godzilla in the Philippines. Fast forward to present day and we are introduced to Ford, a U.S. Navy EOD officer, who is sent to Japan to retrieve data with his father Joe. After discovering a massive chrysalis that has been feeding off nuclear reactors, a giant winged insect-like creature escapes and wreaks havoc.

The story becomes even more complex as it is revealed that the creature, known as a MUTO, was communicating with something else, which turns out to be a female MUTO. The military devises a plan to use nuclear warheads to lure the monsters out into the open ocean and destroy them, but it doesn't go as planned. The tension builds as the clock ticks down and Ford must race against time to disarm the warhead before it detonates.

The visual effects aren't that bad and the battle scenes between Godzilla and the MUTOs are nothing short of epic. The film explores themes of the dangers of nuclear power and the consequences of humanity's attempts to control nature. The performances are strong, particularly from Bryan Cranston as Joe Brody, and Ken Watanabe as Dr. Ishiro Serizawa.
