China's angry, Philiphine and US discuss strategy against Beijing in the South China Sea

The focus of discussions between President Joe Biden and his Philippine counterpart Ferdinand Marcos on Monday at the White House will be measures to halt Beijing's aggressive push into the South China Sea's vital islands and shipping lanes.

Following President Yoon Suk Yeol's state visit to Washington last week and Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's meeting at the White House in January, Marcos is in the United States for a four-day visit.

As China pushes ever more confidently to stake claims to sovereignty over nearly the entire South China Sea -- ignoring an international judgement that this has no legal basis -- alarm bells are sounding for Washington and its Asian allies.
