Treasury Sec. Yellen: US could default as soon as June 1

Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen sent a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Monday urging Congress to raise or suspend the debt limit as soon as possible before early June. Yellen said waiting until the last minute to resolve the debt ceiling deadline could damage consumer confidence and make US national security vulnerable.
