Fire Sprinklers Save Lives: Mercy Housing Fire Causes Extensive Flooding, Displaces Residents

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento Fire Department responded to a report of an alarm at Mercy Housing at 720 7th Street early this morning, where a bedroom fire caused extensive flooding and displaced occupants of at least seven apartments.

According to radio traffic, the fire sprinkler was activated due to the fire, and it was quickly extinguished before getting out of control. The sprinklers were able to contain the fire to the single bedroom of the apartment but caused extensive flooding on the 5th and 4th floors of the apartment complex.

Firefighters arrived at the scene within minutes and worked quickly to stop the flooding and assess the damage. They were able to confirm that there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.

The displaced occupants of at least seven apartments are being assisted by Mercy Housing staff. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
