Rene Rodriquez notched a stoppage victory over Mark Johnson in the third round of their showdown at BKFC 38.

‘White Boy’ entered the ring for his seventh bare-knuckle boxing bout. Rodriquez’s first handful of fights were with BYB Extreme and he was on their inaugural event. He is now 2-0 under the BKFC banner specifically and riding consecutive wins within that promotion.

Rodriguez admittedly never comes in with a game plan other than just to win. He likes to be adaptable with what his opponent presents and ultimately perceives the situation as fighting himself.

Rodriguez came to give a show but ultimately wanted to take his time by feeling him out in the first round. He struggled to find recent tape on his opponent but remained fluid despite not finding footage of Johnson over the last decade or so. Rodriguez knocked him down several times and got into the specifics of what holes he was able to exploit in Johnson’s game.

Rodriguez quipped, “He surprised me because he was coming consistently and he was faster this time than his other fights. So he surprised me. But I knew that even with his speed, his speed of his hands wasn’t going to be matching mine. Because I’ve been doing this way for too long.”
“I’m 40 and I feel like I’m 25, you know what I’m saying? So like you saw today, I move around quick. I’m here to stay, you know what I’m saying?”

Rodriguez loves fighting for the Florida faithful. The partisan crowd was there in a big way and as someone who was born in the state, there’s a magic to feeling the support and adoration of his raucous peers.

In that context, the self-proclaimed original gangster of BKFC is next eyeballing someone who has asserted himself as the face of the promotion to many.

Rodriguez said, “Who I want next is Mike Perry. Because I don’t see anybody else, not even the champ at 165. There’s no money there. I just want the respect. You know what I’m saying? I get more respect by fighting the biggest dog.”

“So why not fight the biggest person in the world? You know what I’m saying? At least he’s from Orlando and I’m from Miami. So we should do something like that. Miami versus Orlando.”
