Some people celebrate the burning of Judas on Holy Saturday (the day before Easter Sunday), which was originally a springtime pagan ritual that marked the end of the winter and the beginning of spring. The custom is still practiced in some locations throughput Portugal, and it has as its symbolic topic the purifying by fire and the casting out of evil.
