Junji Ito's Maniac is an Inconsistent Mess

Junji Ito, the manga horror master had the honour of another adaptation in Winter 2023. Netflix adapted 20 short stories into Junji Ito's Maniac.

What was produced was less something compelling and more something inconsistent, tonally strange and did Junji Ito's work a bit of a disservice. He hasn't had the best luck with adaptations, and in that fashion, Maniac rears the same ugly head.

In this video I look at the different short stories, rank them in a tier and take a look at why Junji Ito's Maniac comes off so inconsistent, despite wishing for something better.
