Date – Friday, April 18th - 2023 – St. Louis Grignion de Monfort

St. Louis Grignion de Monfort (1673-1716) was a French priest who was banished from the Diocese of Poitiers by the Bishop, influenced by Jansenism, during his preaching of spiritual exercises to the Sisters of St. Catherine. At his leave-taking, he directed a letter to the inhabitants of Montbernage, urging them to have an ardent love for Jesus Christ and to love Him through Mary. He emphasized the importance of true devotion to Our Lady, praying the Rosary every day, and receiving the Sacraments at least once a month. St. Louis faced many enemies who hated him for defending the principles of the institutions that supported them. However, the Vendée and Bretagne, where his preaching was well received, were the only places that rose up to defend the altar and the throne during the French Revolution. St. Louis is a rejected prophet, who raised high the standard of the fight, but at the same time was rejected, hated, and persecuted, just like true counter-revolutionaries today.

St. Louis Grignion de Monfort, Pray for us.

R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
Oremus:
O GOD, Who taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that, by the gift of the same Spirit, we may be always truly wise, and ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
