The US is facing a homelessness crisis that has worsened during the coronavirus pandemic. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, there were 580,466 people experiencing homelessness on the streets and in shelters in January 2020. The economic disruption, housing instability, and mass unemployment that Covid-19 has touched off in the U.S. could lead to a 45% spike in overall homelessness within one year. Homelessness affects people of all ages, races, and backgrounds, but some groups are more vulnerable than others, such as veterans, youth, and people with disabilities.
