The reason why groups such as fraternal orders didn't allow or excluded certain people into their ranks was to protect their hard earned wealth and assets from weak minded men who would have the potential to snitch or misgovern the communal prosperity the group worked hard for. This is why initiations were instituted to weed out those who weren't true and loyal to the group or organization.
