5 Biblical Financial Principles Every Christian Needs to Know!

If you’re on social media at all, it’s tough to not feel like the world is falling apart around us. Things keep seeming to get crazier and crazier… but the beautiful part is, it makes it even more important to Follow Godly principles, today were talking about the 5 biblical financial principles ever Christian should know.

As the world can seem darker and darker, I think the more important it is to stick to Godly principles. We see this to be true in many stories of the Bible, from Joseph, Job to David.

We think this is crazy, but imagine being Joseph (coat of many colors), getting sold into slavery by your family, siblings telling your parents you died. Then while working your bosses wife tries to seduce you, then says to came on to her… getting you thrown into prison. To then getting forgotten about for years. Finally being called to the side of Pharaoh.

Imagine how Jacob felt. How weird living in the low of the low, but having faith. How many times do you think he just wondered… why me?

1. God Source / Godly Counsel
Proverbs 8:20-21: “I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgement: that I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.”

And Joseph understood that God was the source. That he must be wherever God wants him to be. It’s usually in the darkness that we find God. I think it trying times like right now when people find God. The existence and visible and audible darkness that’s creeping is actually a clue that God exists. Sometimes we need to face darkness to strengthen our resolve. Its easy to believe when everything is good, but can you still believe when nothing is good?

And what’s even more interesting is Joseph never stopped working.

2. Work Hard
Proverbs 14:23: In all labor there is profit; but talk of the lips tends only to poverty.

Joseph never stopped working hard, no matter where he was. He didn’t say, ‘Oh that’s not my job.’ Or God, when you call me… I’m ready to go to work. I’m just going to wait here quietly till you lift me to the top and give me something to do.

3. Giving Essential / Good Steward
Deuteronomy 14:23 : One purpose of tithing was to teach the people of Israel to put God first in their lives.

It’s important to understand, it’s all Gods. So putting God first is a priority.

Giving, I believe is the connection to God. There’s something special about it that give you more energy and conviction to do what you do.

Its being a good steward. How can you be given more if you cannot manage what you have.

4. Saving / Debt Free
Proverbs 21:20 : There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendith it up.”

Joseph became second in command because the message from God, the dream that Pharaoh had about the cows was a message of saving. That there would be 7 years of famine and it was important to save up grain. Not consuming everything they made because things happen, life is not always going to be all up. That we need ro prepare for the down. Imagine if we told you to save 7 years of income… haha. Getting people to save at least 3-6 months.

5. Secret of Contentment
Hebrews 13:5 : Let your conversations be without covetousness and be content with such things you have; for he hath said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.

And last but not least, probably the biggest surprise… Contentment. The ability to do whatever work is in front of you and still be happy. I’ll admit I struggle here. My face shows exactly how I’m feeling and I gotta remember to smile sometimes. Some days its really hard. As I grow, as our business grows, as our client list grows, as our reach on social media grows, as our family grows… the problems grow too.

Staying content during all of it, the ups, the downs, the financial loss, the business success… all of it. Can you be just as happy and committed, wrongfully accused, rotting in a prison as you are when you are the 2nd in command to the most powerful person on earth?
