The problem with government is every problem is just a lack of compliance an officer needs to force into submission. That’s how the government handles everything from covid, to public safety, and mental health. Very often we see that with immunity, government actors can get away with impunity. Were they poorly trained, were they knowingly helping her family to involuntarily commit her illegally? In the end, they’ll likely not be held responsible. If anything, they’ll undergo some remedial training, and an apology will come from the department. Their career and financial security won’t be affected one bit. The government should not be allowed to decide who is sane. Even if this wasn’t done illegally, it would have been done ex parte, without her present and able to defend herself. It’s bad enough this was done illegally, it should call into question why government is allowed to do this in the first place. This is extremely scary and we don’t know what happened. DPS and ACS have stated that no court order had been issued to detain her against her will. Again, there was no legal order. The only crimes committed here were trespassing on the part of her family. She declined to press charges, which turned out to work against her. The family showed a copy of a bogus court order, which the officers didn’t follow up on, didn’t retain a copy, and are refusing to present evidence justifying their actions. This leaves us to wonder if the officers did it on their own accord. After this incident, Mary has retained legal counsel and is going to sue to seek justice. Hopefully, we’ll find out what happened in discover or after the case is seen in court. We like to say we’re innocent until proven guilty, but in almost all 50 states, if someone accuses you of insanity, you are insane until you can prove you’re not, while everything you say can be used against you to prove that you are. Let me say again, even if this was illegal, she wouldn’t have been able to defend herself before the judge. This is imprisonment without trial or due process. If they had a real court order would it have been any better? There is certainly an element that she was claiming belief in her savior. A belief shared by tend of millions of people worldwide who are just as sane as she is. Mental health is a major problem in the US and the government is the last group I’d trust to handle it. This didn’t serve her, she posed no threat to herself or others. The problem with government is every problem is just a lack of compliance an officer needs to force into submission. That’s how the government handles everything from covid, to public safety, and mental health. Red flag laws, committing laws, etc. presume you are in the wrong. There is no due process, they simply err on the side of infringing your rights. Because they can. We have to stop letting them do this.
