Tyre Nichols’ Death Re-Igniting Policing Debate – Spike on Kennedy – 1/30/23

There are good things being introduced in the legislation following yet another murder at the hands of police. The problem is they are “tweaking” the bills, reducing qualified immunity and no-knock raids instead of ending them. They are adding funds to an already corrupt system; because when government fails, they say it’s because they don’t have enough money. The real problem is officers repeatedly get away with aggression and victimizing with no accountability and feel that they are invincible. They feel so untouchable they beat Tyre to death while being filmed by multiple cameras. We need to end qualified immunity and when a city has to settle a suit, the taxpayers should not be the ones paying it, it should come directly from the police pension fund. Do that and the police themselves will root out the bad actors so fast it’ll make your head spin. Police should have to carry liability insurance just like anyone else in a high-risk profession. Then, when they become a problem, the insurance will refuse to carry them and they’ll be forced to find another line of work. We need to end all governmental immunities – if someone in government harms someone, they should be held accountable just like the rest of us.
