Justice For Joshua and Sunshine - 7/19/22

At the last Gastonia City Council meeting, Joshua and a few of our activists chose to read the details of the body cam footage from the night of his wrongful arrest. The council tried stopping Joshua from finishing, but he kept going. And they let him, probably because they know they're in the wrong. On the night of October 13 2021, Officer Maurice Taylor III, son of Internal Affairs Chief Maurice Taylor Jr., as well as Officer Cierra Brooks, assaulted and wrongfully arrested Joshua, tased his PTSD service dog Sunshine, intimidated and threatened witnesses who saw the whole thing, and then lied to their superiors. All of this is on the body cam footage. Yesterday, after months of fighting to keep the footage blocked, Gastonia Police announced that they and District Attorney Travis Page were requesting to have the footage from that night released, but only from Taylor and Brooks' body cams, even though they shut their cameras off repeatedly, and there were over a dozen officers present. The time for games is over, DA Page. Request the release of all of the footage, from all of the officers present, as well as the jailhouse footage from that night. Your job is supposed to be getting justice. So do your job.
