"Baby Love," written by Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland and Eddie Holland, was the Supremes second no. 1 charting single, after "Where Did Our Love Go," on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (Whitburn, 2013) and the Supremes' only no.1 hit -- and first all-girl group -- to top the UK chart (Kutner & Leigh, 2005). Additionally, The Supremes were the first Motown act to have two no. 1 hit singles in the USA (songfacts, 2023). Dozier said "Baby Love" was about his "first love who[m he] never really got over" (songfacts, 2023).
