A tribute to the Life of Victoria Jay Pike-Green
Victoria “Vicki” Pike-Green passed into God’s loving arms peacefully in her sleep on the morning of March 17, 2023, St Patrick’s Day.
She was born, Victoria Jay Plezia, to Alice and John Charles Plezia on February 14, 1944, St. Valentine’s Day, in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Vicki lived with her family in Korea and Japan during the United States occupation of Japan. They returned in the early 1950s to Fairhaven, Massachusetts; where she spent the rest of her childhood and graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1962. She enrolled at Tufts University in Boston to study physical therapy, where she met her future husband, John Douglas Pike, in a library on campus. They were then married on Cape Cod in 1963. While still living in Boston, her first son, John Christopher was born, and 14 months later, her second son, Scott Douglas arrived.
Soon afterward, the four moved to Knoxville, Tennessee in pursuit of higher educational degrees. While working on her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee, her third son, Charles Frederick, was born. The five of them moved to Statesboro, Georgia in 1970, where she completed her master’s degree at Georgia Southern University in Adult Education. The family then moved to Augusta, Georgia for John to attend Dental School and Vicki entered civil service at Fort Gordon. Later, in Hinesville, Georgia she helped with the opening of John’s Dental Practice and worked at Fort Stewart.
After the passing of John, she continued her career with the Army, eventually serving at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. as a high-level budget analyst with the Army. She retired in 1998 and decided to relocate near her family in Cocoa Beach, Florida. There she married Jim Green, a friend from the Pentagon, at St. David’s Episcopal Church in 2001. They enjoyed a happy twenty-two-year marriage and traveled to many destinations in the United States, Canada, Central America and Scandinavia. Mountain getaways to Deerhill on Lake Burton, Georgia provided many special adventures there from hiking to many nearby waterfalls and white-water rafting outings. They enjoyed boating/sailing together along Florida’s East Coast, dancing at Heidi’s and watching the beautiful sunsets from their Cocoa Beach home.
Vicki was very involved in her community and always tried to give back. Whether she was Lector at church services at Our Saviour’s Catholic Church, playing tennis with her Space Coast teammates, gardening with her Master Gardening groups, or studying The Bible and traveling with her Friday morning Ladies Bible group. She was also very involved with her family, hosting her children, grandchildren and grand puppy; as well as, visiting them often. Vicki was involved and cared for the people in her life. Her family is thankful to have shared her love and life for over 79 years.
A devoted and loving Wife, Mother, Mother-in-Law, Beloved Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin and Friend no one will ever be able to forget our beloved Vicki. Her faith in God, her adventurous spirit, and her absolute love for her family and friends; Vicki truly lived her life with Amazing Grace and showed God’s unconditional love in so many ways.
Vicki is survived by her husband James A. Green III, three sons John C. Pike, Scott D. Pike, and Charles F. Pike, three daughters in Laws Nancy Langston Pike, France Pike, and Christine Pike, daughter Lisa Elders & son in law Cole Elders, five grandchildren John D. Pike, Ava I. Pike, Brandon Elders, Nicholas Elders, and Shanna Gissele Kennedy, and two great-grandchildren LeAnn Michelle Kennedy and Christopher Shawn Kennedy. The family asks that donations in her memory in lieu of flowers be made to: The Victoria Pike Green Memorial Scholarship, Georgia Southern University Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 1107, Statesboro, GA 3045
