Beginning around 1832, students studying anatomy were legally allowed to obtain and dissect the b0dies of people condemned to d1e. But because there were such few b0dies each year and with medical students needing around 500 b0dies annually, b0dy snatching became prevalent. People who were out to make a quick buck would gladly dig up the b0dies and sell them to local medical schools. It became such a problem that families would set watch over their bur1ed loved ones. B0dy snatching wasn’t unique to only the Victorians, though. It can be traced back as far as 1319 in Italy.
