INFO :

The Museum of Viticulture and Horticulture is a national museum in Golesti, located in the Golesti Court in Ștefănești, on the national road that connects Pitesti to Bucharest.
It is organized in two sections: the Golescu family mansion and the outdoor Ethnographic Museum.

Around the time of the Second World War, the Golești mansion and outbuildings were left in disrepair. Following the discovery of the complete collection of letters of the Golești, George Fotino decided to publish them in 1939. thus, he saw the light of the printing press, the monumental work "From the time of the national renaissance of the Walloon Region. Golești Boyars". The enthusiasm of the researcher led him to ask for material support for the restoration of the mansion and the outbuildings, from the National Institute of Cooperation, headed, at that time, by the engineer George Minescu. The entire restoration work was entrusted to the renowned architect Horia Teodoru. Thus, in the years 1942-1944, the mansion and the outbuildings were saved, which were later transformed into a museum, bearing the name of the scholar Dinicu Golescu[1].

The restoration period of the Golești complex, between June 9, 1942 and July 14, 1944, was coordinated by the engineer Corneliu Săndulescu, site manager appointed by the National Institute of Cooperation - a consummate professional, who rebuilt, with the support of teams of difficult workers constituted, an exceptional historical monument.

The skill of this remarkable man is also reflected in the preoccupation with drawing up a detailed report on the restoration works at Casa Goleștilor, a task assumed and difficult to achieve in the absence of site documents (measuring and attachment notebook, site disposition notebook, diary) , which had been submitted to the INCOOP headquarters in 1944, at the end of the mission.
Engineer Săndulescu's memoir was written in November 1969, 14 years after his retirement due to illness and loss of work capacity, at the urging of engineer George Minescu, former general director of INCOOP.

The initial budget necessary for the restoration of the mansion, obtained through the efforts of engineer George Minescu, in the amount of 2,000,000 lei, exceeded, by the end of the restoration works, the figure of 24,000,000 lei, which represents a significant financial effort in the service of cultural history Romanian.

The restored mansion benefited from many donations, which constituted the initial collection of the museum: the last Golești donated small objects that belonged to them, as well as the desk on which Carol I signed the first act during his reign, namely the pardon of Metropolitan Calinic Miclescu , the one who opposed bringing a foreign prince to rule the country. Also, the original paintings of the Golești, painted by C.D. Rosenthal, were made available to the painter Nicolae Grant, to be copied and displayed in the mansion
