The 4 Marian Dogma | Part 2: The Theotokos #Shorts

Theotokos is a Greek word which literally means “God bearer,” and it is more commonly translated as "Mother of God."

This dogma affirms the belief that the Blessed Virgin Mary is truly the Mother of God.

But this does not mean that Mary is somehow greater than God, or that she is the Mother of the Holy Trinity, but that the child she bore in her womb, Jesus Christ, is both fully human and fully divine.

He is not just a wise teacher, a rabbi, or a prophet. Instead, Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour is the Son of God and God himself, deserving of all worship and adoration.

So as Catholics, we honour the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Mother of God, and this is one of the reasons why we trust so much in her powerful intercessions and maternal care.

This is our faith. This is the faith of the Church. And we are proud to profess it, in Christ Jesus our Lord.
