Cornelia Bayley, the owner of a Grade I listed 17th-century manor house in Flintshire, North Wales, made headlines when she confessed to not having washed her bedsheets or mattress for a century. Bayley purchased the Jacobean mansion in 1985 for a mere seventy thousand British pounds, intending to live there for the rest of her days. However, financial difficulties caught up with her, and she was forced to live on a modest retirement pension, barely enough to make ends meet.

Over the years, the mansion has become increasingly grimy, and Bayley admitted to having cleaned it only once or twice since moving in during the 1980s. Her personal hygiene has also suffered, with her admitting to not bathing for two or three years due to a broken boiler she couldn't afford to repair. This unique story paints a vivid picture of a woman who fell in love with a historic manor house, only to find herself struggling to maintain it in the face of financial challenges.
