CMV: We shouldn't rebuild Florida after Hurricane Ian
Why just Florida? We attempt to minimize wildfire damage and rebuild in California. Should we let California burn since nature will always win? A good part of the US would be uninhabitable if we didn’t rebuild after wildfires, hurricanes, and tornados. So is it just Florida or all homes that could be damaged by natural disasters?
You’re over-estimating the damage done. Hurricanes don’t “tear it all down.” They do some damage and the damage can be repaired. And our grandparents from the Great Depression taught us that repairing things costs less than throwing them away and buying new ones. What you want to do is throw the car away and buy a new one after a fender-bender. That would be the waste of money.
We build cities in these locations because they are critical ports and places of trade.Tampa has the largest port in Florida and flows tons of trade in/out of the entire country. If you close off all the coastal areas where we might build a port, then we will quickly destroy our entire trade economy.
Hello, Dutch man here,WE CONQUERED THE SEA AND RECLAIMED LAND.Thats all I have to say
Maybe this should make us rethink about not only housing building standards, but more pressure on councils and developers to not construct in flood prone areas
Same with every other state right? Like California’s wildfires?Just let the whole state burn?
This is some serious edgy doomer Emo talk imma be real opnature will win… in the end we are fighting naturethe oceans are rising and the earth is heating up because of us!
What city do live in? Maybe everyone could relocate there
Do you have any evidence that hurricanes are getting worse? I’m asking this sincerely. I see this said often but I’ve never once seen any evidence other than the statement they are getting worse
As a 3rd gen floridian, you can straight up go flock yourself with this one. This is as offensive as.it gets.Everyone please downvote and report this before people who lose family.or homes have to see this.
I get where your coming from, but using your logic then everybody in Puerto Rico should leave the island.
Ok, so we shouldn’t rebuild the parts of California or other states that get devastated by wildfires and earthquakes?
Are hurricanes getting worse or are there just more people/building nowadays so the devastation/deaths seem higher? Turn off CNN
You are basically dooming millions to homelessness and poverty. People should relocate? With what money? Where? Who can take several million refugees on a short notice?
Thats still no excuse to rip the residents of Florida of their homes, businesses, families?! We've evolved enough to build architecture to better handle floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, other natural disasters. Freindly reminder that only 90 individual companies are responsible for most of the world's climate change
Here's the kind of controversy I am here for. This is why I don't mind reddit. On with the intellectual discourse.
Then we should do the same with California wildfires.
The same applies to 40% or more of the entire US territory.

By this logic we should just abandon earth...C'mon man. Lots of people just lost everything. Last thing anyone wants to hear right now is how their home isn't worth rebuilding.

Should we not rebuild Kentucky after the tornadoes? The houses destroyed have been there for decades.
There is literally nowhere on the face of the planet in which nature will not eventually destroy man-made structures. Do you suggest we just stop building everywhere else as well?
Lmfao
We rebuild every location after a natural disaster. Why would Florida be any different in your mind ?The last time Tampa Bay had a hurricane was 1901. I have seen 3 tornadoes in my little area of the midwest the last 10 years. Why is it okay for us to rebuild but not them ?
It doesn't really matter what you believe is a "waste of money" because living there and the associated risks and benefits is a personal decision for individuals. You're not being forced to move to Florida. People can choose to accept that risk, or as most do - pay a third party to transfer that risk if they want to.
By your logic, everyone who has had damage from an earthquake, tornado, or wildfire should just move somewhere else. Good luck finding somewhere that has absolutely NO natural disasters. BTW, not everyone can just move somewhere else at the drop of a hat if at all!
What data do you have to prove that hurricanes have gotten worse? And do you mean more frequent, or larger storms?
Should we stop rebuilding tornado ally? California-actually wait flock california. We can let that shithole burn
