Former Hawaii Democratic state Representative Ty Cullen has been sentenced to two years in prison for accepting bribes to influence contracts related to raw sewage treatment. Cullen was found guilty of accepting $30,000 in cash and $22,000 in casino chips to swing his vote in favor of a businessman seeking contracts for the removal of cesspools. Judge Susan Oki Mollway scolded Cullen for the "grievous breach of public trust," adding that "this was not a momentary lapse of judgment."

Cullen's sentencing is another example of corruption within the Democratic Party, according to some. They demand a shift towards politicians who embody integrity, honesty, and transparency. However, Cullen has apologized, saying he will work to make things right and ensure this never happens again. This case serves as a reminder to all elected officials that corruption will not be tolerated and that justice will eventually be served.
