Air is the latest Ben Affleck directed film, once again teaming up with long time buddy Matt Damon to bring us the underdog story of how Nike overtook Converse and Adidas to become the number one athletic shoe company in the world, all thanks to Michael Jordan and the Air Jordan shoe line.

It’s a quality film, but as McCurdy once pointed out, every year there’s an Oscar contender that is really well acted, but too low-key to really make any waves. This is that movie. The performances are the highlight, but the story is just too matter-of-fact to walk out of the theater with head and heart buzzing.

It’s the movie equivalent of someone telling you an interesting piece of trivia. It tickles you for a moment, and then you move on with your life. “Hey dude, did you know that Michael Jordan almost didn’t sign with Nike for the Air Jordan’s?” “No, I didn’t know that, thanks for telling me. Hey what should we get for lunch?”
