The Story Never Gets Old | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | May 8, 2023

Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God who saved us and called us to a holy calling. 2 Timothy 1:8,9

Before we came to know Christ, there was a way of sin in which we followed. Indeed, the whole world is on this path of sin and destruction. But until any sort of revelation or awareness comes upon an individual, people as a whole persist in sin and disobedience. They simply do not know any different and do not desire anything different. But for those who hear the gospel and have their hearts stirred to its message, an awareness of self suddenly comes. Much like Adam and Eve understanding their nakedness in the garden, we see our sin and our shame for what it is. And we see Christ for Who He is, the only One who can atone for our broken state.

When we become Christ followers, there can be an initial point of zealousness and wanting to tell the world about the joy we’ve found. New Christians are often the best witnesses; full of life and hope and ready to share the truth. But at some point we can lose this sense of awe and even become ashamed to speak out so boldly. Paul warns of this in 2 Timothy 1:8. He tells Timothy not be ashamed of the gospel. This is a holy calling, one in which Christ is worthy. If we’ve lost some of that joy, we can ask the Lord to restore it and make us bold once again. The gospel never loses its power and its a story we never get tired of telling!
