Just say NO to Crack! (Voice cracking that is :-) )

If there's one thing I've learned, that would be this: I cannot overemphasize the importance of abdominal strength singing enough!

I see and hear so many vocal coaches and singers spend so much time on adjusting positions of the throat and tongue, vowel placement, silly parlor tricks that don't last for more than a single line in the song, and the list goes on and on.

When all the while, they are completely missing the core tenant of sustaining a great voice.

And that non-negotiable building block is diaphragmatic abdominal strength breathing for singing.

I don't care how many rooms you add to your building, if you don't have the correct foundation, you will not be able to sustain holding up any of those room additions to the house you are building if you don't have this one extremely important component of support.

And you'll be chasing vocal issues from here to kingdom come, blaming everything except the very thing that is most important to determine where other vocal issues could be coming from. That being Abdominal Strength Breathing.

Now, with that said, this is the first thing that must be looked at when trying to prevent something like voice cracking, which can also be caused by many things such as:
1). Not enough support to sustain a note
2). Pinching and squeezing to get to a note and probably because of a lack of correct support 3). The vocalist has not built enough stamina yet to sustain that note
4). Mucus on cords (which can include postnasal drip and even acid reflux)
5). A tired or fatigued voice or even vocal nodes or lesions.
And the list goes on.

In this video, I break down some of these elements to determine how to overcome voice cracking.
