Join us in celebrating GrandMixer DXT's recognition.

GrandMixer DXT is the world’s first Turntablist. He is a musician, producer, songwriter, and DJ who is set apart from the rest in musical innovation. In his early career DXT, (formally known as D.S.T.) was the main DJ at the number one club in NYC; The Roxy. DXT is best known for using the turntable and operating it as a musical instrument. His mentor Herbie Hancock coined the phrase "turntablism" when referring to the technique GrandMixer DXT uses. This specific technique earned GrandMixer DXT a spot on the Grammy Awards stage in 1984 where he, along with Herbie Hancock and the Rockit Band, received a Grammy Award for Best R&B Instrumental Performance.

In more recent years, GrandMixer DXT was inducted into the Guitar Center Rock Walk of Fame in 2014. In 2018 DXT won an additional Grammy for Best Music Film as a contributor to the music for HBO’s Defiant Ones; a four-part documentary that tells the life stories of record executive Jimmy Iovine and record producer Dr. Dre. Also in 2018, GrandMixer DXT performed with Herbie Hancock for the 100th Anniversary of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra... a historic event that took place at the Hollywood Bowl in CA. In July 2019, GrandMixer DXT and Herbie Hancock were once again requested to perform with an orchestra. This time it was with the NPO (National Philharmonic Orchestra) for NASA’s 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC along with other notables such as Pharrell Williams, LeVar Burton, Meredith Vieira and more!

GrandMixer DXT has restored the highly acclaimed Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall, uncovered by the Library of Congress by utilizing the digital capabilities of today’s technology to restore analog tapes of yesterday. (Forensic Editing™) The recording is now available on Thelonious Records, distributed by Blue Note. DXT is currently working with T.S. Monk on several recording projects; one which has earned an award in 2021 presented by the 25th Annual Jazz Journalists Association in the “Historical Record of the Year” category for the Palo Alto album.

As a result of DXT’s various accomplishments, and for his contributions to urban and popular music and the community, he has become a recipient of proclamations from the mayors of both the city of Mount Vernon NY and Bridgeport CT. Last but not least, DXT continues to keep the youth in our communities in the forefront of his mind.

GrandMixer DXT is the founder and creator of Team Hip-Hop; a team of legendary music artists who ride in bicycle tours in order to bridge the gap between adults and our youth in the community. The team also holds master classes for those who are in need of education as it pertains to health, nutrition, career, the arts, agriculture, finances, and more.
