IMF & Pakistan

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has provided financial assistance to Pakistan on several occasions, in the form of loans and support programs. In 2021, the IMF approved a $500 million loan to Pakistan to help stabilize its economy amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.But Pakistan defaulted on its external debt payments several times in the past due to economic challenges and limited foreign reserves.
