Phone-based Thermal Cameras have a lot of pros but about the same amount of cons.

Pros
- Small & easy to carry
- Videos & Pictures are easy to access or send via phone
- Lots of options and settings
- Easy to connect and use
- Apps are free
- Very durable if not connected to the phone
- Less expensive

Cons
- Technology-based (Currently USB C)
- Phone brand-based (Apple Connections Vs Android)
- Easy to misplace because of size
- An App is needed (And the App needs to be supported)
- Apps can crash and freeze
- Easy to break if dropped
- Another company has access to your phone
- Might not be compatible with new versions of OS

The main reason people will get into these thermal imagers on a phone is the ease of use and sharing of the recorded files. That is a HUGE benefit of these and for people who want to share the information, it is very easy. Beyond that, the downsides are hard to overcome. They fit a technological need and will need to be replaced as technology progresses. This is cool, but if you need your phone and to take an image at the same time, you are sort of screwed.
