What’s Next for TikTok in the U.S: Jake Morabito on The Matt Rooney Show on 1210 WPHT Philadelphia

ALEC Communications and Technology Task Force Director Jake Morabito spoke with host Matt Rooney on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT Philadelphia about the future of Tik Tok and the policy action being taken by both federal and state policymakers.

There's been significant momentum in the call for banning TikTok. Recent ALEC reports analyze how state and federal regulators have addressed the so-called threat as some states, like Nebraska, have banned the use of TikTok on all state-owned devices and networks. In total, 30 states have restricted Tik Tok and other Chinese or foreign-owned applications from their networks and devices. The federal government took similar action in December.

Following last month’s congressional testimony by TikTok CEO Shou Chew, federal legislation (The Restrict Act) has been introduced that could not only ban the popular social media platform, but potential subject the online activities of every U.S. citizen to increased and intrusive government surveillance.
