White House says “nothing’s changed about our One China policy” amid tensions over Taiwan

Speaking at a White House press briefing Monday, National Security Council Spokesman John Kirby said there are “no reasons” for tensions across the Taiwan strait from China to escalate into conflict. “Nothing’s changed about our One China policy, nothing’s changed about the fact that we don’t support Taiwan independence, and nothing’s changed about the fact that we don’t want to see the status quo change unilaterally and certainly not by force,” said Kirby.
